Double Rainbow

I live about a block from my church so when I received a phone call - there's a double rainbow - I managed to capture these images.  With the wet summer we have been having (nearly an inch of rain in the last three days) this was a welcome surprise.

Rare Pacific Northwest Lightning

It is rare that we have thunder and lightning over Whidbey Island, perhaps every few years.  When I heard the loud rumble, I grabbed my camera and stationed myself at a window.  I focused manually for distance, set the shutter speed for eight seconds, then hand held the camera and waited.  Out of some 50 shots, I caught the lightning twice.

I am sure the purple color cast is an odd white balance - but I like it!

Olympic Mountains from Whidbey Island

Farmers have a spectacular view on Whidbey Island.  I would have a hard time keeping my rows straight!

Walking the dog on Whidbey

This is what it's like, walking your dog on Whidbey Island.  This stroll along the beach at Ebey's Landing offers great views of the Olympic Mountains.

Mt. Baker in Summer

Mt. Baker with its summer coat of snow, Oak Harbor in the foreground.  This was the view two days ago.
As the warm weather continued, the view of the mountain became hazy.  This was the view from yesterday.
This was the view today, from the Maylor's Point Trail near Oak Harbor.  The Oak Harbor Marina is in the foreground.

Ebey's Landing

Mt. Rainier is barely visible in this view of Ebey's Landing, central Whidbey Island.  There are many hikes in the area, on the beach and along the bluff.

Mt. Baker from Central Whidbey Island

This is Mt. Baker as recently seen from Ebey Bluff.  One can park near the Coupeville cemetery, at the Prairie Overlook, and take a relatively short and level hike out to the bluff.  From this spot one can see, in addition to Mt. Baker, the Cascades, Mt. Rainier, and the Olympics.

Ebey Blockhouse

This is the hike from the Coupeville cemetery to Ebey Bluff.  The path is relatively level and has great views.  The Ebey home is open on weekends during the summer and has displays of lots of pioneer information.  The Olympic Mountains are in the distance.
