Whales Near Ft. Ebey State Park
I went to Ft. Ebey State Park the morning of April 13 to catch the Olympics. A couple pointed out these whales.
There were four and I thought they were gray whales. Looking at these photos, at least two of them were orcas, I think.
This last photo gives you an idea of how far away they were.
I did not have a super telephoto lens but it was certainly fun to watch these whales for quite a while.

Whale Watching with Deception Pass Tours
Yesterday I went on the Deception Pass Whale Watching Tour. I had a great time.
We were told to watch for the characteristic heart shaped spray. We first saw them around Hat Island (Gedney Island).
Yes, definitely a whale.
We saw two grays. One was thought to be Patches, named because of his scars from an altercation with Orcas.
It was a great trip. We followed the whales for a while as they moved north.
We made it back to Oak Harbor safe and sound. The Island Whaler has speeds up to 30 miles per hour. We were able to get to the whales' location quickly and spend quite a bit of time watching them.

Paragliding at Fort Ebey
These photos were taken at Fort Ebey State Park April 10.
Considering the view of the Olympics at Fort Ebey, is there any wonder people like to paraglide there?
I've never done this but it sure looked like fun!
It took a while but three of the five there finally made it up. Fort Ebey, a Washington State Park, is on the west side of Whidbey Island and is a favorite for paragliding.

Windy Day on Whidbey
These three photos I took yesterday at Windjammer Park show how much the seagulls enjoyed the brisk south wind.
One seagull stayed on this rock for ages, just being blasted by the waves.
Many of them soared, staying nearly motionless.
A willow at the lagoon gives an idea of the strength of the wind.
