Christmas Day Eagles

Having spent Christmas Eve with one sister, I was spending Christmas Day with my other sister in Belling-
ham. I decided to take the Bayview Edison Road to Chuckanut Drive.
When I came to the flat farm land, there were eagles every-where.
I saw both mature and young.
I think I lost count some-where around twenty five.
I saw more eagles on Christmas than I ever have up on the Skagit River.

Christmas Eve Sunset

The sunset from my sister's house (on Whidbey Island) Christmas Eve. The Olympic Mountains were mostly hidden by clouds.

I was at Ft. Ebey State Park on the west side of Whidbey Island.

Mt. Baker Dawn

During this stormy weather, I thought Mt. Baker at dawn from Oak Harbor taken in August, might be cheerful.

September Sunset

It's been way too cloudy the last few days so I went back to a photo I took September 12. The sun was setting right over Smith Island. The Olympic Peninsula is at the left. I was on the west side of Whidbey Island at, aptly named, Sunset Beach.

Oak Harbor

Mt. Baker was sporting a new covering of snow last Sunday, December 14th, in the afternoon sun. I was southwest of Oak Harbor, on a street off Scenic Heights Road.

Even on cloudy days the Olympic Mountains break through from time to time as in this view overlooking San de Fuca and Penn Cove.

Oak Harbor

On a cloudy and stormy day like today, here's a reminder of just last week. I was on the west side of Oak Harbor, capturing the North Cascades.

Whidbey Island Views

There are many places on Whidbey Island where one can relax and enjoy the view of mountains and sea. One is at the end of Hastie Lake Road, a public access area on the west side of the island. You could enjoy the morning view of the Olympics, as I did, or come back in the evening for awesome sunsets.

Olympic Mountains from Oak Harbor

This is the view from above the Sno-Isle Library parking lot in east Oak Harbor, the view many have from the navy housing on the hill. This is looking southwest, across Oak Harbor Bay. The city of Oak Harbor is at the right. The Olympic Mountains are above the area called Scenic Heights.

Reflection

Two storms came through Whidbey in the last couple of days, leaving over an inch of rain. Some drains are not doing their job, as shown here in a parking lot.

High Tide at Whidbey

There was an unusual, very high tide yesterday morning.
The lagoon south of the San de Fuca school house was filled with driftwood.

Storm Clouds

The unstable air with the storm that came through the Pacific Northwest yesterday made for some interesting clouds.

Cascade Glow

The North Cascade Mountains catch the last of the sun's light. This might well be the scene about a month from now as I took this photo in January of this year. I was on the west side of Oak Harbor on Whidbey Island.

Mt. Baker from Guemes Channel Trail

The southern foothills of Mt. Baker caught the afternoon sun as I was on the Guemes Channel Trail on Fidalgo Island. The weather was not the best that day so I definitely plan to go on that trail again.

Hyak from Guemes Channel Trail

I was on Fidalgo Island recently and decided to check out the Guemes Channel Trail, just east of the Anacortes ferry dock.
It's a very nice trail and I'll be returning on a sunny day as there are beautiful views of the ferry and Mt. Baker.

Mt. Baker

Mt. Baker caught a bit of afternoon sunshine yesterday.

This scene reminded me of the old debate of planting by the weather or by the moon.

Even on cloudy days the sun tries to break through on Whidbey Island.

So has Mt. Baker. These photos were taken from Oak Harbor on Whidbey Island.

Relaxing, watching the sunset at Ft. Ebey State Park. The Olympic Mountains are in the distance. I took this photo in September, when the sun was still setting to the north of the Olympic Peninsula.
