Hazy Sunrise

The haze from the eastern Washington fires continue to cause awesome sunrises.  The top photo shows the sun rising over a foothill barely visible.  The bottom photo was taken before the sunrise, showing the thick layer of smoke.

This two inch tall tuft of ornamental grass found a place to root in a bricked patio.

Hazy Sunset from Whidbey Island

We have had a high pressure system over the Pacific Northwest, unusual for this time of the year.  The still air, combined with the smoke from eastern Washington fires, makes for a colorful sunset.  When I arrived at Joseph Whidbey State Park, the sea was still.

It was almost impossible to catch the unusual colors as the sun sank through the hazy sky.

There were many wandering the beach, hardly able to take their eyes off the sunset.

The image of the sun was distorted as it neared the horizon.

A very unusual sunset for Whidbey Island.

Hazy Sunrise

This photo was taken 50 minutes after sunrise, yesterday.  The haze from fires in eastern Washington created the unusual color.
The "false sun" is because I took the photo through a window.  I left it in as it shows the sun without the glare.
