Camp Casey, Whidbey Island, WA

Seattle Pacific University owns the housing area of Fort Casey.  Shown here is the Colonel's house.  Also shown is part of the parade ground, now used for soccer camps and other special events such as kite flying groups.
This again shows the Colonel's house, the BOQ and the faculty house.
This is the alumni house.

Panorama from South Whidbey

This is the view from Hilltop Dr., south of Clinton, at the south end of Whidbey Island.  This panorama is a combination of four photos (and is greatly reduced in size).
This is an even broader view, a combination of eight photos (again greatly reduced).  Across Saratoga Passage is Everett and the Cascade Mountains.

Mt. Baker from Ebey Bluff Trail

I think one could walk the Ebey's Landing trail along the bluff every day and have a different view.  If one begins the hike at the Sunnyside (Coupeville) Cemetery and follows the access road, it is nearly a level stroll out to the bluff.
On the way to the bluff one passes the Ebey Blockhouse and pioneer home, the Olympic Mountains providing a backdrop.  Certainly a beautiful and easy hike!

Mt. Baker from Penn Cove, Whidbey Island

This was the view from Madrona Way on Whidbey Island just before noon.
When I came back late in the afternoon, the clouds were gone.

Backlit Flowers

I took this picture toward the sun with the shaded part of a nearby tree as the background.  I looked a bit strange, lying flat on the ground, but I like the results.

Race Week at Whidbey Island 2011

Over 100 boats are participating in this year's Race Week.  The tide was out so the boats were well away from the historic Coupeville Wharf.  The clouds did a good job of hiding Mt. Baker too.

Foggy Fort Casey, Whidbey Island

Mt. Rainier begins to show as the fog evaporates on a sunny day on Whidbey Island.  No matter the day or the weather, there are always people enjoying Fort Casey State Park.

Winter boating near Whidbey Island

People boat all year long in the Pacific Northwest.  This is a January scene, taken from Ft. Ebey State Park on Whidbey Island.  The Olympic Mountains are in the distance.

Fort Casey, Whidbey Island

This was the scene at Fort Casey on July 6, 2011.  The spring had been so gray, I was excited to experience the sunshine again.

USS Abraham Lincoln near Fort Casey, Whidbey Island

I caught the USS Abraham Lincoln as it headed out from its home port in Everett.  In the foreground is part of the Fort Casey State Park.

Mt. Rainier from Oak Harbor, Whidbey Island

One can find views of Mt. Rainier many places around Oak Harbor.  I found this view by standing on a picnic table just above the Sno-Isle Library parking lot.  With the mountain over a hundred miles from Oak Harbor, it has to be a clear day with lower humidity for a sharp image.

Olympic Mountains from Oak Harbor, WA

The Olympic Mountains loom over the west side of Oak Harbor Bay.  In a matter of minutes, boaters can see two mountain ranges (Olympics, Cascades) and two towering mountains (Rainier, Baker).
