I few times a year I try to get out to Ebey's Landing and do at least part of the five mile hike. This time we went the entire route. Even though we started in the early afternoon, the fog was just lifting near the coast. In the foreground is the Ferry House with its newly restored porch.
The views in the distance are great but I always try to look down as well. Frequently there great scenes on the ground too.
The weather was not the best. It was cloudy but relatively warm. This gives an idea of what the trail is like. Perego's Lake is a salt water intrusion lagoon.
At the end of the trail along the bluff, it drops to the beach. The switch backs are not to difficult.
We walked along the side of the lagoon and saw interesting driftwood and plants.
The lagoon looked rather "dried up." There was interesting looking "goop" along the shore.
At times I thought the earth was going to bubble up around me.
Mt. Rainier was barely visible from the beach. I've made a mental note to go back when the sky is clear and the humidity is low.
By the end of the hike the weather was getting worse. Nonetheless, even on a cloudy day there are scenes on this hike one will find nowhere else. Here the various ranges of the Olympics are evident.
If one parks at the Ebey Prairie overlook parking area, the hike out to the bluff is relatively level and is only a half a mile. It is certainly worth the effort. No matter the weather, the view is always great.
