Joseph Whidbey State Park

This park, on the west side of the island and just south of NAS Whidbey, is one of my favorite places to take a gentle hike in the woods.

There are views of the Salish Sea and the San Juan Islands.
The path is well maintained, through woods and grass. It was a bit muddy so I was glad I had my hiking boots. See the tracks of a stroller?

There were lots of forest sights along the way.
It is a nice hike through nature.

Picnic View - April 2

Ft. Ebey State Park on Whidbey Island is a great place for a picnic and a bluff hike. The views of the Salish Sea and the Olympics are amazing.

Windy Day - April 2

A paraglider at Ft. Ebey State Park on Whidbey Island. Notice the white caps on the Salish Sea? It was a windy day. The Olympic Mountains are in the distance.

Checking Crab Pots - March 24

Checking crab pots, I think, in the Salish Sea against the backdrop of new snow on the mountains on Vancouver Island.

Sunset - February 18

The wind late yesterday was from the north, was strong and very cold. The Olympic Peninsula is on the horizon. I was at Sunset Beach on the west side of Whidbey Island.

Fort Ebey Panorama

I find it difficult to give a full sense of the view at Fort Ebey State Park on Whidbey Island. The expanse of sea and mountains is breathtaking. This shot was from December 23.

Olympic Mountains - December 23

The view of the Olympic Mountains from Ft. Ebey State Park on December 23 was amazing.
The state park is on the west side of Whidbey Island off Libbey Road. The views include Mt. Rainier at the south to the San Juans at the north.

The sun setting over the Olympics December 8. The color would come a few minutes later.

Foggy Passage - December 8

A foggy morning for this boat on the Salish Sea December 8. The Olympic Mountains are catching the early morning light.

A Chilly Swin

I spotted a swimmer in the Salish Sea this morning, off the west side of Whidbey Island. The water temperature this time of year is about 52 degrees. I know because I spent more hours than I can remember swimming in these same waters as a child. After about 15 minutes you are so numb you can't feel anything anyway.

Smith Island

One of the few times the building on Smith Island were clearly visible, on August 27. The lighthouse is now automated but a family lived on the island in my parent's time. I was at Joseph Whidbey State Park.

Old Breton Prayer

"O, God, Thy sea is so great and my boat is so small." This view of the Salish Sea and Olympic Peninsula from Ft. Ebey State Park reminds me of that prayer.
