Sun dog rainbow

This sundog rainbow was visible on a recent late afternoon. Caused when light is refracted by ice crystals, this is the longest one I've ever seen.

Hope for the end of rain

The reflections in the puddles this morning gave hope of blue sky on the way.  Could this be the end of our above average rainfall?

Sunday Afternoon Stroll

A great place for a Sunday afternoon stroll.  This is the west side of Whidbey Island, near Joseph Whidbey State Park.  The Olympic Mountains are to the south.

Sentinel to Spring

A lone crocus gives evidence to spring in a neglected yard. 

I took away the color around the crocus to highlight the single flower.  The rest of the garden was so drab, obviously ignored.  I wanted to somehow convey the feeling I had when I saw it.

Spring Snow on the Foothills

It is Mar 23, isn't it?  Yet there is lots of snow on the foothills.  Spring is here, but so is snow!  This photo was taken from the east side of Oak Harbor on Whidbey Island.

Budding Signs of Spring

Taking a photo towards the sun is always interesting and adds a little life to the image.

Olympic Mountains from Whidbey Island

It may be spring but the Olympics show off their new dusting of snow.  I took this photo this morning near Joseph Whidbey State Park on Whidbey Island.

First Day of Spring

Today is the first day of spring so I walked my neighborhood to find signs of it.

Sure enough, the daffodils are out.  Now, if it would just warm up!

Dried Seed Pods

On occasion I just wander around to see what my eye catches.  I found these dried plants in a vacant lot near my home.

Beauty can be found in some of the most mundane places.  Sometimes one just needs to slow down and really look at what is around them.

Mt. Baker Winter Sunrise

A recent sunrise view from the east side of Oak Harbor on Whidbey Island.  Yes, I probably take more pictures of Mt. Baker than any other mountain in the area.  I do love the way it graces the horizon.

Deception Pass at the Golden Hour

It is getting to that time of the year again when the late afternoon sun is at the right angle to highlight the Deception Pass Bridge.  Now if we would just have a few more sunny days!

Even though we had a clear day recently, the ice crystals indicated a front coming in.  Sure enough, back to the clouds on the next day.
