Deception Pass Bridge

Deception Pass State Park reopened today. It felt good to be able to see this view of the bridge again and be serenaded by a Celtic harpist (I think).

Lighthouse Point Trail

Sunday, December 29, was so beautiful I went to Deception Pass State Park and hiked the Lighthouse Point Trail. I noticed the paddle boarder and later saw him circling Deception Island.

The views from the trail are amazing and the trail itself is inspiring.

Kiket Trail, Swinomish Reservation

The Kiket Trail is on Kiket Island, off Snee Oosh Road. It is a joint venture of the Swinomish Indian Tribal Community and Washington State Parks. After crossing the isthmus, I took the North Trail to the western point of the island. It offered the above view of Deception Pass Bridge. This trail had a bit of elevation gain.

I took the South Trail back to the parking lot. This trail was almost level. There is also a gravel road that goes down the center of the island.

Kiket Lagoon is part of a wildlife sanctuary near the beginning of the trail.

Dunes Trail, Deception Pass State Park

The nearly level paved trail offers some great views of the Salish Sea and San Juan Islands, as well as sand dunes.

The view from West Point, at the north end of the parking lot at Cranberry Lake. This part of the Deception Pass State Park is on Whidbey Island.

Bowman Bay, Deception Pass State Park

Also on Fidalgo Island, this bay is a great place for kayaks and model sailboats. There are great places for picnics and lots of trails for hiking, a few of which have views of Deception Pass Bridge.

Rosario Beach, Deception Pass State Park

Rosario Beach, on Fidalgo Island, is another beautiful part of Deception Pass State Park. In the distance are the San Juan Islands.

Deception Pass Bridge from Hoypus Point

The Deception Pass Bridge from Hoypus Point, a short hike from Cornet Bay on the north side of the bridge. It is one of a few spots where both spans of the bridge can be seen from the east.

Deception Pass Sunset

Taking the short hike to Hoypus Point in the Deception Pass State Park is always rewarding, especially near sunset. This location is populated with photographers at the spring and fall equinoxes when the sun sets directly under the large span of the bridge.

Hiking at Deception Pass State Park

There are several hikes within the Deception Pass State Park. These are some photos I took as I hiked from the amphitheater to the bridge. It was a nice winter hike.
