Salish Sea Sunset

I was at Sunset Beach a few nights ago to catch these rays as the sun set over Vancouver Island. Sunset Beach is on the west side of Whidbey Island.

Azalea

An industrious spider did a great job of anchoring his web to a stamen of this azalea blossom.

Winter Snow

The Olympics were showing off some new snow in mid-February. Known as Sunset Beach, this was a place my cousin and I would frequently spend the day as kids. We each lived a couple of miles from it so would ride our bikes. Now, every time I visit the beach there are always cars at the various parking spots. This is a popular place for great views from the west side of Whidbey Island. I was at the entrance to Joseph Whidbey State Park for this photo.

Farming on Whidbey Island

I'd never get anything done if I had to work on this farm near Ebey's Landing in the Ebey Historic Reserve. I'd be gawking at the Olympic Mountains all the time. I took this photo about a week ago.

Salish Sea Sunset

The sunset Sunday night (the 19th) still showed the effects of the smoke from the fires in Siberia. I was at Sunset Beach on the west side of Whidbey Island. The sun is now setting over Vancouver Island.

Mussel Farm

This was the view from Madrona last week. Mt. Baker had received new snow from a "winter" storm a few days before.

Mt. Baker from Coupeville

I was at Captain Coupe Park on the east side of Coupeville last week to catch Mt. Baker with new snow from the "winter" storm we had a few days ago.

Hazy Sunset

These photos of the sunset last night show the unusual coloring of the setting sun. The day had been very hazy.
Smith Island is on the horizon.
I was on the west side of Whidbey Island, on the aptly named Sunset Beach.

Picnic with a View

A great place for a picnic, now that the temperatures are in the upper 60s, is Fort Ebey State Park. I was there yesterday morning for a view of the new snow from the "winter" storm a few days ago. Fort Ebey State Park is on the west side of Whidbey Island.

Dew Drenched Tulip

We had had a heavy dew a couple of weeks ago and I noticed the precise droplet pattern on this tulip. We photographers sometimes fake dew with a spray bottle of water but that has never come close to creating something as awesome as what nature does on its own.

Blustery Sunset

I braved what felt like 40 mile an hour winds last night at Joseph Whidbey State Park to catch the sunset. Smith Island is on the horizon.

Spring Snow

The Olympics had new snow yesterday morning after a winter storm - in April! I was at the Hastie Lake Boat Ramp, an Island County park on the west side of Whidbey Island.

Blue skies and the cherry tree in full bloom. It was in the mid-sixties yesterday. Spring has arrived.

Olympic Mountains

The Olympic Mountains at the end of February from the west side of Whidbey Island. Water and mountains - my two favorites.

Tulips in Skagit Valley

These are the last of my photos from the Skagit tulip fields.
This field still had some very nice daffodils next to the tulips.
I always find it a bit disconcerting to be taking a photo and see someone point his camera in my direction.

Easter Eve Moonrise

The full moon rise over the Cascades the evening before Easter. I was so interested in the moon I did not even notice the aircraft, and their red blinking lights, to the left of the moon.

Cladonia (cup lichen)

No, this is not a set for a science fiction movie. I discovered this lichen on a decorative log as I was weeding my garden. I think this is Cladonia choloroaea, also called Mealy Pixie Cup. It seems reindeer and caribou eat it, but I didn't give it a try.
