Olympic Snow

These views from West Beach Road on Whidbey Island are so encouraging after the meager snow pack the Olympics had last winter.

The full moon setting over the Salish Sea and Vancouver Island shortly after sunrise on Thanksgiving morning in this view from the west side of Whidbey Island.

November Full Moon

The top photo was taken November 25 and the bottom one the night before.
I knew from The Photographer's Ephemeris app (a free app) that the moon was not rising near any mountains. The top photo is from where I live while the bottom one is from the west side of Oak Harbor, looking toward the Cascade foothills.

New Snow on the Olympics

The latest winter storm left a good amount of snow on the Olympics as seen in this November 21 early morning photograph from the west side of Whidbey Island.

New Snow on Mt. Baker

The early winter storm left a nice layer of new snow on Mt. Baker. Compare this photo I took yesterday from Oak Harbor with the post below, taken at the end of September.

This photo from the end of September shows the meager snow pack on Mt. Baker before our winter storms began.

Winter Storm on Whidbey

The waves were still crashing at Libbey Beach yesterday from the winter storm that left a good deal of snow on the Olympics.

Windjammer Park

No, this is not a windmill beside a canal in Holland. This is the windmill in Oak Harbor next to the flooded parking lot.

Olympic Snow

The new snow on the Olympics was visible for just a few moments from San de Fuca yesterday. Another storm rolls in with more snow for the mountains.

Whidbey Storm

The crashing waves on the west side of Whidbey Island reflected the storm that left some new snow on the Olympic Mountains in the distance.

Spirals in Nature

This wild daisy I spotted on a rainy afternoon this week is a good illustration of naturally occurring spirals. The mathematical sequence was described hundreds of years ago by Fabonacci. The pattern allows for the greatest number of seeds that can be packed into the seed head. The same swirling pattern can be seen in sunflowers and some pine cones. Looking intently, it is difficult to tell which way the spirals open.

Mushroom Season on Whidbey

It's mushroom season and they'll grow almost anywhere - like this Shaggy Mane in a gravel parking area on the street where I live.

Autumn Scenes on Barrington

There is a street in Oak Harbor with a tantalizing row of trees showing off their fall colors. With the recent wind, many of the leaves have fallen. The trees line both sides of the street so I had a good time finding interesting compositions. I also had fun processing the daylights out of these photos in Lightroom.

November Sunset

A couple of seagulls were my only companions on the west side of Whidbey Island yesterday near sunset.

North Cascades

The North Cascades were clearly outlined in this predawn view from mid-October. I was on the west side of Oak Harbor.

Beach Stroll

A stroll on the beaches of Whidbey Island is always a rewarding adventure. The Olympic Mountains are in the distance. This scene is from earlier this fall.

God's Chariot

"O Lord my God, how great you are!
You make the clouds your chariot;
you ride upon the wings of the wind."
Psalm 104:1b, 3b. NLT
I read these verses Sunday and seeing the clouds yesterday, I just had to put them together.
