The price of individualism

This patch of tulips was paying the price for being separated from the accepted rows. I was at Tulip Town in the Skagit Valley earlier this month.

Tulips in Skagit Valley

I was at Tulip Town in the Skagit Valley yesterday. I think it has the best display of tulips as there are not too many fields this year that can be seen from the road.

Hoh River Trail

Some friends and I hiked the Hoh River Trail on the Olympic Peninsula March 18. The trail is almost like a fairy wonderland.
Many of the downed trees had been cut but we did come across some obstacles too.
We caught glimpses of a snow capped mountain.
We passed a nice waterfall and cascade.
The trail follows the Hoh River, sometimes closer than others.
We had lunch by the river at Mt. Tom Creek.
Here's the group.
We saw plenty of elk.
It's a great hike, giving a sense of the mystery of the rain forest of the Olympic Mountains.
Our last view of the river.

Arizona Desert Hiking: Hieroglyphics Trail

The trail begins at the foot of the Superstition Mountains near Gold Canyon. It's about three miles round trip and yields some interesting views of petroglyphs created by the Hohokum.
There are seasonal pools at the petroglyphs.
The hike ends in the valley shown below.
The trail is a little rough in places but is very popular.

Oak Harbor Dawn

I was down at Flinstone Park March 11 to photograph the high tide and large amount of driftwood. This heron posed nicely for me. The Oak Harbor Marina and Cascade Mountains are in the distance.

Windjammer Park Storm Damage

A high tide and 60 mph southerly winds early on March 10 left their marks on Windjammer Park in Oak Harbor.
