Super Moon Rise

It took a while for the full super moon to make it above the clouds late this afternoon. Mt. Baker is just visible at the left in this iPhone photo from the west side of Oak Harbor.

Super Moon

The super moon this morning, just before it slipped behind clouds on the western horizon. I was on the west side of Whidbey Island a little after 6:30 a.m. to catch the moon before it set.

"Super" Lunar Eclipse September 27, 2015

These are a few photos from the lunar eclipse last night. I caught a helicopter flying by on this first exposure of several seconds.
This photo is right at the end of totality.

Super Moonrise

The super moon was hazy tonight, seen through the smoke from the eastern Washington forest fires.
I was on the west side of Oak Harbor as the moon rose over Oak Harbor Bay.
It soon hit a patch of thicker smoke.
Here are additional shots of the super moon as it rose tonight.

Super Moonset

The moon set over the Olympic Mountains this morning just before six a.m.
This is called a super moon because the moon is at perigee, the closest to the earth in its elliptical orbit.
These photos were taken at the entrance to the Joseph Whidbey State Park on the west side of Whidbey Island.
