Mountains around Oak Harbor at Dawn

It was the first clear morning in what seems like months so I was out at dawn yesterday to catch the North Cascades,
Mt. Baker,
Mt. Rainier,
and the Olympics. The first three photos were taken in Oak Harbor while the last one was taken near the entrance to Joseph Whidbey State Park on the west side of Whidbey Island.

Salish Sea Rainbow

I was at Sunset Beach December 22 when a light on the horizon caught my eye.
As I drove along West Beach Road, the color grew.
I was at Libbey Beach for the final glimpse before it faded entirely.

The Olympic Mountains were showing off their new snow the morning of December 21. Thanks to a phone call from a friend, I was able to dash out to West Beach and catch this view.

Longer Days

It was too cloudy to catch the sunrise December 21 but this one from Oak Harbor at the end of November gives an idea of how far south the sun rises near the beginning of winter. I look forward to more hours of daylight.

Scenes like these are frequent along West Beach Road on Whidbey Island.
These were taken November 21 as the Olympics showed evidence of new snow from a recent storm.

Photography in the Extreme

A fellow photographer was catching the waves at West Beach November 9. I was safely standing on a bulkhead. It just goes to show you what we'll do to get that one photo we're looking for.

Winter Storm Sunset

The sunset last night was swallowed up by the crashing waves at Sunset Beach. We'd had one storm come through early in the day and I could see another on the horizon.

Grazing on a Frosty Morning

I was on West Beach Road on Whidbey Island on a frosty morning in November, wondering why the cattle were not staring at Mt. Baker.
