Dandelion Back and Front Lighting

This gives an idea of the difference in the image when the light is in front of the camera, as above, or behind the camera, as below.

Purple Mountain Majesty

I took this photo moments after sunrise. This view is from Oak Harbor, on Whidbey Island, with the North Cascade Mountains in their purple majesty.

Fly Me to the Moon

This is evidence that photographers should always look behind them. I was taking photos to the east and glanced back at the moon to the west.

Backyard Birds: Eurasian Collared-Dove

This bird was introduced to the Bahamas around 1974. By 1980 it had made its way to Florida and then spread across America. It was first seen in Washington State in 2000. We've had two living nearby for a couple of years and this summer saw two young ones. Now there are regularly four or five near our bird feeders.

Color on Grey Wall

This maple tree is next to a big box store. I loved the way the leaves were back lit, bringing some color to the drab store building.

Blueberry Blossom

This blueberry bush must have forgotten that it was November, the end of the producing season, not the beginning.

North Cascade Mountain Range Detail

Viewing the North Cascades from Oak Harbor, we rarely see beyond the first range of mountains. The sun was shining on the peaks beyond that first range recently so they stood out against the overcast sky.

Below is a detailed view that shows the range as it extends beyond Pilchuck, the large mountain at the right. Big Four Mountain is the rather tall peak about a quarter of the way in from the left edge of the photo.
In the photo below, Glacier Peak can be seen just to the left of Three Fingers with Blue Mountain to the right. Whitehorse is at the left of the photo.
The contrast was not very good as there were clouds behind the mountains but the sun shining on them helped to make them visible. Pilchuck is the mountain at the right in the photo below.

Spider

This one made his (or is it her) web right next to the picture window. I couldn't resist. I got out my close up lens and had fun.
