Oak Harbor Beach Erosion

Recent very high tides and southerly winds have eroded the beach at Windjammer Park on Oak Harbor Bay. All the supports for the wind breaks used to be on solid ground. Now the southern most ones are surrounded by driftwood.

Winter Wind Storm

West winds of 35 mph created great waves at Sunset Beach yesterday. Sea foam on my clothes, sand in my eyes and mouth, what more could a native Whidbey Islander want?
Stormy days like yesterday show why the attempt to make waterfront lots on this part of the beach did not work. All that remains are broken pieces of concrete.

Oak Harbor Sunrise

January 9 sunrise on Scenic Heights and the Olympics from the east side of Oak Harbor. I was at the Sno-Isle Library parking lot for this view.

Man Against Nature

A developer built a bulkhead along the southern end of Sunset Beach decades ago with the aim of selling waterfront lots.
These photos from yesterday show why the project did not succeed. The remnants are a favorite site for graffiti. Sunset Beach is on the west side of Whidbey Island. The San Juan Islands are on the horizon.

Is it spring?

My snowdrops think it's spring, as do my tulips. But so do the weeds. It's going to be a long weeding season.

This view of Oak Harbor Bay and the Olympic Mountains is from above the Sno-Isle Library on the east side of Oak Harbor. Some of the NAS Whidbey military housing is just above this location and have this view.

Mt. Baker from Whidbey Island

Mt. Baker from West Beach Road on Whidbey Island. I grew up on the farm close to this property and saw this view frequently. It still has a special place in my heart.

Olympic Mountains from Whidbey Island

I grew up in this little community of San de Fuca on Whidbey Island. This view is from Arnold Road on the last day of 2015.

Waves

Libbey Beach on Whidbey Island. There is something about the waves that is soothing.

The ducks and I were at Flintstone Park at dawn the last day of 2015 to catch Mt. Rainier from the edge of Oak Harbor Bay.

Mushroom Clouds

This is not a cloud from an atomic bomb. It was one of many unusual cloud formations December 29. A temperature inversion was predicted.
I took these photos from the parking lot of the Sno-Isle Library in Oak Harbor.
