Christmas Day Eagles

Having spent Christmas Eve with one sister, I was spending Christmas Day with my other sister in Belling-
ham. I decided to take the Bayview Edison Road to Chuckanut Drive.
When I came to the flat farm land, there were eagles every-where.
I saw both mature and young.
I think I lost count some-where around twenty five.
I saw more eagles on Christmas than I ever have up on the Skagit River.

Eagle and Heron on the Beach
I was out to the beach early and saw several birds looking for their breakfast. This eagle did not stay put very long.
I saw one heron nearby.
And then I saw the rest of them down the beach. At the time I took this photo, I did not even see the eagle on the rocks (center bottom). He was the one flying by in the first photo.

Eagle in Oak Harbor Bay, Whidbey Island
The sun is finally out again (who knew February would last for four months). Several eagles grace the Oak Harbor Marina. This one remained, even as boats and kayaks were launched.
In the distance, Scenic Heights and the Olympic Mountains. It is amazing to see the Olympics with this much snow in June, a result of our cool spring.

Fort Casey, Eagles, Ebey's Prairie
We trekked over to Fort Casey this morning, hoping to catch the USS Lincoln come through the strait. There were about a dozen of us who waited a couple hours only to find it had gone through a little after sunrise, about three hours ahead of "schedule."

We did have fun seeing the huge eagles flying around. It seemed as if this big one was waiting for the boat, too.
We even caught a golden eagle taking a dip at Camp Casey.

Every day is a beautiful day on Whidbey Island, especially when you have views like this one of the Ebey Historic Reserve.
