Ebey Bluff Trail
A great hike to take on a Sunday afternoon is the 3.5 mile Ebey Bluff Trail on Central Whidbey Island.
One can park at Ebey's Landing (Discover Pass required) and trek west along the bluff, climbing 364 feet in elevation.
The trail continues above Perego's Lake, then down the bluff to the beach. One can return to the parking lot via the beach, completing the loop.
The views are amazing and almost continuous, including the Olympic Peninsula (seen here), Mt. Baker, the Cascades, and on a really clear day, Mt. Rainier.

Tall Ships at Fort Casey
The Hawaiian Chieftain fires on the Lady Washington on June 13 at Fort Casey. The tall ships passed through Admiralty Inlet as part of the celebration of the 225th anniversary of Vancouver exploring Puget Sound in June of 1792.
There was a good crowd at the park to watch the ships put on their show.
The Lady Washington even fired on the Coupeville-Port Townsend ferry.
The ships continued south to Tacoma to be part of the 2017 Festival of Sail. You can see a list of the ships invited at http://festofsailtacoma.com/ships/. The red sailed Thane is at the center of the group above. Other ships invited include the Cutty Sark and Coupeville's very own Schooner Suva.

Monroe's Landing View
This view of Penn Cove and the Olympics from the beach at Monroe's Landing on Whidbey Island is a familiar one from my childhood. Monroe's Landing was our favorite swimming place. The water in the cove was a bit warmer than the ocean on the west side of Whidbey and was a mere bike ride from home. Scores of people enjoyed this beach on the summer days of the 1950s and 1960s. Cars lined the side of the road. Now parking is prohibited and the beach is infrequently used.

Ebey Prairie Then and Now
The historic Smith Farm on Whidbey Island at the end of February, 2016.
The same farm at the end of May, 2017.
Another photo from February, 2016 from a little farther away. The historic barn burned down this spring. I am going through my "to work on" file, getting to some photos I have never processed and posted.
