Deception Pass Sunset

This is why photo
graphers drive out to Cornet Bay and then hike out to Hoypus Point.  That area is part of the Deception Pass State Park.  On this evening, generally two or three days before the fall equinox, the sun passes right through the center of the bridge.

On this night the sun sets a little to the north of the center of the bridge.  Perhaps in two nights the sun will be setting directly below the span.

I stayed as late as I could and still see my way back to the parking lot.  Sometimes the best color will be up to a half an hour after the actual sunset.  Photographers gather at this spot near the fall equinox and then again at the spring equinox.  It is a rewarding experience.
