Snowy Mt. Baker

The recent storm we had after a hot summer makes me long for the snowy views of Mt. Baker, like this one from February of 2014. I was in Oak Harbor on Whidbey Island for this photo.

Sunflower Bud

I think the buds of the sunflower are every bit as fascinating as the blossoms.

Windjammer Park

Windjammer Park in Oak Harbor is one of my favorite morning places. This was a crisp morning in December of 2014.

Smokey Sunrise

Even though we had wind last night, this morning's sunrise showed there was still smoke in the air from the forest fires in the Cascades and eastern Washington. I was near my home in Oak Harbor, Whidbey Island, to catch this view.

Smokey Sunset

The smoke from the fires in eastern Washington made for a colorful sunset last night. The smoke particles always give an unusual cast to the sun's color. I was on the west side of Whidbey Island at Joseph Whidbey State Park.

Porteau Cove Provincial Park

A nice place to stop on the drive from Vancouver to Whistler is Porteau Cove. It is located at the head of the most southerly fjord in North America. We saw divers heading out and research showed that a ship was sunk in the area, just so divers could have some fun. There are picnic tables, an informative dock, and all the facilities one needs at a stop on a long drive.

Sunset Fishing

This fellow was getting in his final casts at Sunset Beach on the west side of Whidbey Island last night. The Smith Island lighthouse was lit as was the passing ship.

One of the many retention ponds at the ski area for making snow.
There is lots of summer hiking on Whistler mountain. Blackomb is in the distance.

Whistler: Whistler Peak Views

Whistler is in the midst of the Coastal Range so there are mountains in every direction.
This lift is the last of several we took to get to Whistler Peak.
Looking down to Whistler Village.
Looking toward Blackomb (below).

Whistler: Peak to Peak

The views of Whistler Village and Green Lake from the Peak to Peak gondola, the world's longest unsupported (free) span for the lift of this kind. It runs from Blackomb to Whistler.
The ski runs on Whistler as we approach the mountain.

Reflected Sunset

I had been out to the west side of Whidbey Island to catch the sunset but then came back in to Oak Harbor to see the full moon rise near the windmill in Windjammer Park. The colorful display continued long after sunset as reflected in the (Island Savings and Loan) bank building.

A Rock Like No Other

"Different from all the rocks on the beach..." (Tracy Chevalier, Remarkable Creatures) I was at Sunset Beach on the west side of Whidbey Island.
