Guemes Mountain Trail Views

The well maintained trail is 2.6 miles, round trip, with an elevation gain of 610 feet. We hiked to the summit February 24.
The upper half of the trail had about two inches of snow.
The views along the trail were worth continuing up the slippery slope. The walking sticks provided at the trail head were a plus.

Guemes Island Resort

The resort is at the north end of the island and is a popular location for crabbing as well as sport fishing. Even on a winter weekend, with no crab nor fishing seasons open, it looked like all the cabins were occupied. No, this is not one of them.

Guemes Island Beach Treasure

While we found some human painted treasures on the beach, we also found some natural ones.

Guemes Island Rocks - Part Two

Someone provided little treasures for beach walkers to enjoy near the Guemes Island Resort.

Guemes Island Rocks - Part One

We saw this rock on the drive to our cabin on Guemes Island. How it got there is a mystery to me.

Mt Baker - February 19

I grew up on Whidbey Island seeing this mountain nearly every day, well, every day it wasn't cloudy. It has a special place in my heart and especially when it has a new coat of snow.

Sunrise - February 19

I was on the west side of Oak Harbor, watching how the sun moves north each day as it rises over the Cascades.

Sunset - February 18

The wind late yesterday was from the north, was strong and very cold. The Olympic Peninsula is on the horizon. I was at Sunset Beach on the west side of Whidbey Island.

Cascade Snow - February 18

The Oak Harbor Marina and the North Cascade Mountains in the late afternoon.

Another Wind Storm - February 18

I was out at Sunset Beach on the west side of Whidbey Island to see the sunset and was surprised at the wind. It was from the north, strong and cold.

New Snow - February 18

New snow on the Cascades today. The skies are beginning to clear over Oak Harbor.

Sunset - February 11

I was at Sunset Beach on Whidbey Island.

Winter Wind Storm - February 17

Whidbey Islanders love a wind storm.
Every beach I went to on the west side of the island was packed with cars and people braving the sea foam.
Could it be that our weather is usually mild and rather boring?

Oak Harbor Marina - February 10

I was on the aptly named Scenic Heights Road to get this view of the marina and Mt. Baker from across the bay.

Seed Thief

We did not have gray squirrels on Whidbey Island when I was growing up here. In the last decade, they have invaded and driven off the Townsend's Chipmunk.

Oak Harbor - February 10

My favorite view of Oak Harbor and Mt. Baker, from Freund Street off of Scenic Heights Road.

Sunrise - February 12

Oak Harbor and the Cascades.

Sunset - February 10

Swan Lake, Sunset Beach and the Olympics shrouded in fog. Can you see the cars parked at the beach? There are usually many people watching the sunset.

Sunrise - February 10

After what seems like months of clouds and rain, the sunrise was visible this morning over Mt. Pilchuck.
From Oak Harbor, Washington State.

North Cascades - January

All of the Cascades visible from Oak Harbor were clearly seen at dawn on January 2.

Rain Rain Rain

I am a landscape photographer frustrated with yet another day of rain.
