Needs Repair

I was wandering on the grounds of a conference center here on Whidbey Island and found this building.

Sea Snails and Eggs

We were near the Mukilteo ferry landing during a recent low tide and saw these sea snails and their eggs. Fortunately, we had a zoologist in our group as I had no idea what they were. I'm a Whidbey Island native and have spent hours on the beach but I do think these were the first sea snail eggs I'd ever seen.

Bee

I was experimenting with an add-on lens and caught this bee, the first I've seen this season. This was a hand held shot as no tripod could be used - that bee was just too quick!

Salish Sea Traffic

When you are on the west side of Whidbey Island, there are always boats going somewhere. Here is the ferry between Coupeville (Keystone) and Port Townsend.
Freighters frequently pass by as they go to or from Seattle.

Ft. Ebey State Park View

Ft. Ebey State Park on the west side of Whidbey Island is a popular destination. The views of Mt. Rainier and the Olympics are spectacular. There are camping sites and plenty of trails to hike. It is my favorite spot for a summer picnic.

Ebey Bluff Hike

My favorite hike on Whidbey Island is from the Prairie Overlook to Ebey Bluff. The trail is almost flat and from it you can see Mt. Baker, the North Cascades, Mt. Rainier and the Olympics. All of that as you stroll above the Ebey Prairie to the bluff overlooking the Salish Sea. The next time you are on Whidbey, do not miss this scenic hike.

Olympic Picnic

A great place to have a picnic is Ft. Ebey State Park on Whidbey Island. Besides an awesome view of the Olympic Mountains, there is usually sea traffic passing by.
