Jordan Pond, Acadia National Park, Maine

Jordan Pond was formed by a glacier. It has remarkably clear water and is used as a source for drinking.

We were able to see North Bubble as we approached the pond but the fog quickly descended and cut off a distant view.

My niece checked out one of the walking trails along the pond.

Jordan Pond Gate Lodge, Acadia National Park, Maine

The building was constructed in 1932 by John D Rockefeller Jr. A gate keeper lived there, helping to help keep automobiles off the carriage roads. The Rockefellers owned a great deal of property on Mount Desert Island. The house was deeded to Acadia in 1939.

My sister and niece contemplate Otter Cliffs. At 110 feet, it is one of the highest headlands along the Atlantic coast north of Rio de Janeiro.

The tide was not high enough to see the water shooting up but we did have some nice waves. 

Sand Beach, Acadia National Park, Maine

This sandy beach is unusual as most of the coast is rocky. A rock formation at the mouth of the cove is the reason.

The rock at the left horizon, Old Soaker, is what changes the wave action and makes for a sandy beach.

Architecture, Mount Desert Island, Maine

We spotted this building as we were driving the Acadia National Park Loop Road. A private residence, I would think, as there are many on the island adjacent to park lands.

There are many private lands in and adjoining Acadia National Park. This is a foggy morning view of Schooner Head, seen from the overlook near the Sand Beach entrance to the park.
