Giant Mushrooms

These have got to be the largest mush-rooms I have ever seen on north Whidbey. They measure ten inches across, are part of  a ring and are in a field west of First Reformed Church in Oak Harbor.

It's mushroom season and they'll grow almost anywhere - like this Shaggy Mane in a gravel parking area on the street where I live.

Black Mushrooms

As I was nearing the end of my hike around Heart Lake I came upon these black mushrooms. I have lived in the Pacific Northwest all my life and never seen black mushrooms. I did an Internet search to make sure I wasn't seeing things. I think these are sarcosoma mexicana, found in old growth conifer forests, especially around rotting wood.

Mushrooms of November

We had a wet fall and the mush- rooms are out in force. I am amazed at the various colors.







The mushrooms come in all shapes and sizes.

These are all ones I spotted on my regular morning walk of around two miles in circumference.

I am also amazed at how quickly they spring up,

and how quickly they are gone.
